LONG HAUL 1983 has been released into the world.

Alright now!

Work on LONG HAUL 1983 began in May 2020.

Much of the core text was written in the summer of 2020, at the height of the pandemic, as my partner and I lived an extremely distanced life in a 13-foot camper trailer.  (We were alone, living simply, working our way from west coast to east coast to be closer to our families.)

The first round of playtesting happened in November 2020.

A second round in February 2021.

And now it's March, and LONG HAUL 1983 has been released into the world.

I'm very proud of the design -- and the way it twists and tweaks the Wretched & Alone structure.  I love its colors.  I love the 26-track playlist/soundtrack, full of awesome period-appropriate music.  I love that the game has a period.  I love that players are already starting to produce amazing recordings and performances ... including an incredibly memorable playthrough recorded on an actual tape-driven answering machine.

I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Stunning game. Exceptionally well designed and written.

I've just started day two on the road. And things are kinda hard. My foot's broken, but I've strapped it to my slip slop as a flexible splint. Yesterday I had to kill someone, and I'm still shaking. And I'm hoping that my 82 year old aunt Teresa and all of her kids are okay down at the Little River Orphan Home.

I truly don't understand what's happening. But my truck's holding it together, even if I'm a little frazzled.

I'm about to hit the road again. I'm hoping there are still other people around. Flash your lights three times if you see me.

Sounds like you had a hell of a day one!

Thanks so much for sharing both your experience and your praise for the game.  I really appreciate it, and it's really exciting to hear. (By all means, feel free to share the word far and wide!)

Excited to find out where your next few days on the road take you!  Keep me posted, and feel free to share more details on the game's discussion board: https://itch.io/t/1269551/post-your-recordings-playthroughs
